QUALIFICATIONS

Roderick Thomas is a director and project manager with Applied Science Associates UK Limited (ASA) and holds a MSc degree in Marine Resource Development & Environment from the Institute of Offshore Engineering, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.

He has some 30 years experience working in the marine industry. After a 10 year career flying in the Royal Navy, he worked for the next 12 years in the commercial shipping sector supporting the offshore oil and gas industry. As a shipping operations manager he supervised all aspects of marine operations during exploration and production activities offshore, including logistic support, offshore construction and pipe laying, marine surveying and diving operations worldwide. He has been based in a wide range of markets including the North Sea, Mediterranean, Middle East, South America, West Africa and SE Asia.

On completion of his post graduate degree, he focused his energies on the marine environment. In particular the design, development and marketing of innovative marine equipment systems and marine craft to respond to oil spill incidents. He also has wide experience in marine oil spill management, including the development of oil spill contingency plans and related risk assessment. In addition he provides advice on the deployment and associated logistic support of oil spill response vessels, marine equipment and personnel.

Within the ASA group, he has responsibility for the development and management of projects in Europe, CIS, Africa, Middle East, South America and SE Asia. His knowledge of shipping and the offshore oil industry provide the practical marine input necessary to better support ASA's range of software systems and team of scientists.
